Dental Sealants

The tops of molars tend to have many little crevices where food can become trapped, sealants help protect those teeth.

Why are sealants important?

Those back molars can be difficult to clean with a toothbrush even for adults, so, for children who are just learning how to properly take care of their teeth, these areas are where cavities are most likely to develop.

We offer dental sealants as a way to help protect these teeth and make it easier for your child to stay cavity-free.

What are dental sealants?

Sealants add a thin coating to the top surface of molars which fills in the tiny crevices and prevents food and bacteria from becoming trapped.

They’re brushed on top of the surface and will usually last for many years before another application is required.

This is a safe and easy treatment that has proven effective in these hard-to-clean teeth that are free of cavities.

When should my child get sealants?

The first set of molars typically erupt at around age 6, with the following set coming in at age 12.

Dr. Williams recommends getting these teeth sealed as soon as they come in to keep them protected.
